Universal Studios Is Coming to Beijing

Beijing - Crowned as Top 10 US destinations for Chinese tourists, Universal Studios Hollywood just signed up with Beijing Tourism Group to build Universal Studios Beijing in the capital’s southeast suburban area Tongzhou. It will spread 20.64 hectares with a total budget of ￥10 billion.

Tongzhou has been a large residence area in recent years: residents usually spend at least two hours in commuting between their suburban homes and downtown workplace. Traffic can be difficult. For Universal Studios Beijing, there is a lot to be built.

While general film professionals, movie goers and job hunters are celebrating at this new land of wonder, some worry that the nation is becoming even more Americanized while its own cultural heritage, iconic film images and film-making conventions are facing a hard time to pass on the next generation.
