2014 witnesses a troop of Chinese filmmakers going to the Busan International Film Festival: 12 feature films from China will be shown in Busan.

The line-up includes the opening film PARADISE IN SERVICE by Doze Niu; 2 in “New Currents” - NE ZHA by Li Xiaofeng and (SEX) APPEAL by Wang Weiming; 4 in “A Window on Asian Cinema” - DEAREST by Peter Chan, RED AMNESIA by Wang Xiaoshuai, THE CONTINENT by Han Han and THE SACRED ARROW by Pema Tseden; 2 in “Open Cinema” - FIVE MINUTES TO TOMORROW by Japanese director Isao Yukisada and BROTHERHOOD OF BLADES by Lu Yang; 2 more in “Gala Presentation ” - COMING HOME by Zhang Yimou and THE GOLDEN ERA by Ann Hui; the festival also honors Biu Cheung Lee’s GANGSTER PAY DAY as its closing film.

Trailblazer of the Hong Kong New Wave Movement, respectable director AnnHui will be crowned as Asian Filmmaker of the Year at the Busan Film Festival.

Chinese stars like Tang Wei, Chen Daoming, Chang Chen, Ethan Juan, Zhang Huiwen and Liu Shishi are expected to walk the Rep Carpet in Busan.

Chinese filmmakers are also eager to ride the wave thanks to the newly-signed co-production agreement between China and South Korea. Industry professionals are invited to attend 3 parties launched by Chinese companies:

China Meets Korea in Busan on Oct. 4th by Heyi Film and Youku Tudou
Beijing Night on Oct. 6th by Beijing International Film Festival
iQiyi China Night on Oct. 7th by iQiyi Pictures

As can be read on our previous reports, Youku Tudou accepted Alibaba’s 1.2 billion USD investment and has become an important supplement in Alibaba’s strategic deployment whereas iQiyi is the video site and filmmaking division of China’s biggest search engine Baidu. So 2 out of China’s top 3 internet companies (the other being Tencent) will be in Busan announcing their new deals. Their determination to enter the film industry is self-evident and their action swift.
