The Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP) proudly has presented some daring and innovative projects are also feature debuts for its creators, displaying the ambition of a new generation, and ushering in the next golden era of Chinese-language films.
ONG Chao-Hong found the idea that grew into A SMALL PLACE about a brother and a sister, living in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur respectively, who journey together to mourn a family member’s passing. Co-writer of the Golden Bell Awards Best Television Movie MY STINKING KID (2006), ONG’s previously work with established producer Leonard TEE and filmmaker TSAI Ming-Liang convinced TSAI to take on the producing duty.
SHUTTLE LIFE delivers a different slice of reality from Malaysia by highlighting the formidable gap between the rich and the poor in this story about a passionate social worker, a family that refuses to resign itself to fate, and the courage and determination needed to survive
Based on a true story and winner of Excellent Screenplay Awards (Ministry of Culture), THE RECEPTIONIST precariously observes all walks of life from an illegal massage parlor in London, where the central character goes to follow her dreams as a student, eventually finding the power to move past the aftermath of the world financial crisis and a natural disaster.
The terminally ill lovers in PROJECT HEAVEN, co-produced by Korea and Mainland China, plan to move past death and go straight into celestial matrimony – but first, they will have to redeem past wrongs before passing through the pearly gates.
In FIVE TO NINE, four filmmakers, framed by the passage of time, weave together four stories in Mainland China, Singapore, Japan, and Thailand, sampling life across Asia with a keen eye on local cultures and a kindly sensitivity toward the human condition.
Also traveling through time is A LETTER TO HAMA, where director Hui-Ling CHEN travels between Taiwan and France, gathering drawings, videotapes, and oral history to build a collective memory that’s founded on magical realism, and meant to fill in the gaps of a broken national history.
In FÔRET DEBUSSY, a mother and her daughter leave behind reality altogether when they decide to live deep in the woods, portraying the absurdities of modern society while highlighting the determination that shines through when humanity is confronted with nature. This project, an international co-production by France and Taiwan and a selected recipient of film subsidy program (Ministry of Culture), is led by KUO Cheng-Chui, whose short film SEANCE FAMILIALE (2010) was a Cesar Award nominee.
Fantasy and comedy have no boundaries in ADULT GIRL, when a Japanese adult movie actress decides to vacation in Tainan and finds the Japanese AV industry clash with local culture, resulting in an exchange of wits and humor, as well as self-awareness for women. Imagination also takes flight with FIVE MISSING KISSES, directed and produced by Golden Horse Film Academy alums ZHUANG Jia-Long and WEN Chih-Yi, respectively, leading a pair of lonely siblings into five adventures with a magical chessboard, allowing them to follow their father and take on the challenge of becoming a true family again.
All selected projects will be unveiled in Taipei City between November 18th and November 20th, when Golden Horse FPP and the Taipei City Government jointly present this year’s selections to filmmakers and investors alike.
