Fortissimo Acquires ‘Sergio Herman’ Ahead of its World Premiere in Berlin
AMSTERDAM/HONG KONG, Jan 23, 2026 – Prior to the start of the 65th Berlinale, Fortissimo Films announces that it has acquired worldwide rights (ex Benelux) to a new culinary-oriented documentary feature, “Sergio Herman, FUCKING PERFECT” that will have its World Premiere next month in Berlin’s official Kulinarisches Kino section. The film joins the ranks of other award winning and commercially successful food-related films that Fortissimo has presented in Berlin before including JIRO DREAMS OF SUSHI, FOOD INC. and SUPER SIZE ME.
Sergio Herman is one of the most renowned chefs in the world. His former restaurant, Oud Sluis had three Michelin Stars, was consistently voted the top restaurant in the Netherlands and featured repeatedly in the San Pellegrino’s list of top 50 Best Restaurants in the World, and he was one of only two chefs in the world to receive the perfect grade of 20/20 in the Gault Millau. Yet after 25 years of striving for perfection and at the height of his career and standing, he decided to close the restaurant down. This documentary is an honest and intimate portrait that shows the struggles of an amazing and accomplished man in transition.
Produced by Amsterdam-based Reinette van de Stadt (“MISSING”, “MUSSELS IN LOVE”) and her innovative documentary production company Trueworks and directed by Willemiek Kluijfhout whose MUSSELS IN LOVE was the opening film of Berlin’s Culinary Cinema in 2013, the film will be presented in the Berlin Festival where a special meal will be prepared/presented on the occasion of the World Premiere. The film will also show in the EFM and will be released in Benelux later in the year.
The deal was negotiated by Fortissimo’s Managing Director, Nelleke Driessen together with Producer Reinette van de Stadt on behalf of Trueworks. Driessen said, “We all love a great meal at a great restaurant and experiencing the transformation of food into art. What we don’t recognize is the magic, sacrifice and mania that it takes for this to occur. This film bares all and helps us understand and realize what the true cost of that meal is.”
Producer van de Stadt went on to add, “I have long admired the taste and accomplishments of Fortissimo in handling food - related films and for some time we have been looking for a film to work on together. I am thrilled that they are handling “Sergio Herman, FUCKING PERFECT.”
