BEIJING July 1, 2025 - Beijing Jingxi Culture & Tourism Co (Beijing Culture) announced they have signed veteran producer Xia Chen’an to run the group, a move to further expand into the film and TV production.
Xia has wide experience in the Chinese entertainment industry. He joined Zhejiang Television channel under Zhejiang Radio and Television Group in 2008, and has produced a bunch of popular TV programs including THE VOICE OF CHINA, RUNNING MAN and DAD CAME BACK. He resigned from Zhejiang Radio and Television Group earlier this year.
Beijing Culture entered the film industry back in 2013 by acquiring Skywheel Entertainment Co, which later produced Chinese blockbusters including MY OLD CLASSMATE and distributed films like BREAKUP BUDDIES.
Before the acquisition, Skywheel sealed a 3-year pact with leading producer Chen Kuo-fu’s CKF Pictures. The deal gives Skywheel priority to invest in films produced by CFK Pictures. Chen has served as the executive producer of some highest grossing Chinese films including IF YOU ARE THE ONE and DETECTIVE DEE franchise.
Late last year, Beijing Culture acquired three more TV and film companies, namely Qunxiang Culture, Beijing Century Partner Culture & Media and Xinghe Culture Artists Management.
Qunxiang Culture is actually controlled by Chen Kuo-fu. To some degree, CKF Pictures could be seen as its predecessor. Qunxiang and Skywheel recently co-invested in CFK Pictures’ THE ARK OF MR. CHOW.
Beijing Century Partner mainly works on TV series and its team includes well-known producer Bian Xiaojun and famou screenwriter-writer Yan Gelin. The company has produced TV series including COMPANIONATE COUPLE, 四十九日·祭 (The Flowers of War) and 良心 (Conscience).
Xinghe Culture, on the other hand, is a talent agency set up by veteran Wang Jinghua, who has brought numerous actors and actresses into the spotlight.
The agency now represents stars including Bai Baihe, Zhou Dongyu, Xu Lu, Chen Daoming and Ren Quan, as well as Hong Kong stars like Tony Leung Ka-fai, Anita YUEN Wing-yee and Carina Lau.
The three acquisitions were financed by a private share placement of 3.3 billion yuan ($530 million), of which Sino Life purchased more than 1.3 billion yuan ($210 million) and become the largest shareholder of the group.
